Employee charged in theft of more than $2,800 from Elma gas station

The Erie County Sheriff's Office arrested a Mobil Express Mart employee Thursday after detectives determined that he stole more than $2,800 from the Elma business.

Shawn Kois, 25, of Elma, faces a felony count of grand larceny, according to the Erie County Sheriff's Office.

The store's management contacted the Sheriff's Office on July 18 after noting suspicious behavior. Detectives reviewed store security footage, transaction records and bank records. They discovered what they described as numerous illicit transactions by Kois between June 17 and July 16. The stolen funds totaled $2,896, according to the Sheriff's Office.

On Wednesday, Kois turned himself in at the Sheriff's Office Elma substation. Kois was released with appearance tickets for Elma Town Court, according to the Sheriff's Office.
