CCB hosts sectional qualifier for USGA Mid-Amateur today

A field of 78 golfers, including many of Western New York's best over the age of 25, will tee off Thursday at the Country Club of Buffalo in a sectional qualifier for the next month's 38th U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.
It's one of 64 sectional qualifiers that will be held this week to determine the field of 264 for the Mid-Amateur which will be held at the Charlotte Country Club and the Carolina Golf Club in North Carolina Sept. 22-27.

The defending U.S. Mid-Amateur champion is Matt Parziale, a 30-year-old firefighter from Brockton, Mass.

Twenty three local golfers will be in the field Thursday along with those from outside the area and from 10 states and the province of Ontario. The field at CCB will be vying for four spots in the national tournament. When the qualifiers across the nation are done, a field of 264 will compete in Charlotte for two 18-hole rounds and then match play.

The local field includes Billy Hanes (Crag Burn), Jamie Miller (Wanakah), Jacob Katz (Brookfield), Bob Rosen (CCB) and Sean Lindstrom (Wanakah). Golfers from as far away as California, Florida, George and the Carolinas are entered.

The field will play from the black tees at the 6,885-yard Williamsville layout.
