The partners behind Biergarten of Orchard Park are working on turning the former Greystone restaurant into a place dedicated to police officers and firefighters.
Buffalo Station House could open at 445 Delaware Ave. as early as October.
If permits aren't secured by then, it should be during the fall, said Dave Cronk. He's opening the place with partners Ben Bell and Justin Driscoll.
Their Orchard Park place has "more of a sports bar feel," said Cronk. "This will be nicer — not high-end, by any means, just more refined."
The décor will be replete with images of law enforcement and firefighting. "Old black-and-whites, academy pictures, fires, crime scenes," Cronk said. "Things of that nature."
"We want to cover these walls so you don't see any gray," Bell said. "So people can come in and look around for their picture."
Friends in the Buffalo Police Department have donated photographs, but they're looking for lots more, and not just from that agency, Bell said. Anyone with photographs or other memorabilia related to police and fire departments or related units that they'd like to offer can contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
"It's a great opportunity for a lot of the guys that don't really get that opportunity a lot," Cronk said. "There aren't a lot of places that pay homage to those essential services, and we thought it was the right idea at the right time – and the right place, certainly, with the police department and fire department right around the corner."
Service staff will include familiar faces, Bell said, as some off-duty firefighters will be behind the bar.
The restaurant will have about 15 televisions, plus a drop-down big screen for games.
The food menu, still under construction, will include "traditional Buffalo dishes, done right," said Cronk. "Nothing overly creative." That said, "you'll be able to get a steak, or a lobster tail, and an excellent burger."
