South District police investigating rash of overnight burglaries

South District police are investigating a rash of residential burglaries that happened early Monday morning in the area of Fulton Street, Elk Street and South Park Avenue.

Buffalo police believe it's likely that six of the seven break-ins or attempted break-ins are related. Most occurred between 1:30 and 5:30 a.m.

In one case, a woman who lives in the 600 block of Fulton woke up to find a man inside her home. The burglar, who took her purse from next to her bed, is believed to have entered the home through an unlocked side door, according to a police report.

In another case on Fulton, the burglar entered the home by climbing a garbage can moved beneath a window. A window air conditioner was pushed in to gain access to an apartment on Elk, where the burglar used the restroom, according to police reports.
