Tonawanda police called to overcrowded birthday party at Legion Post

Town of Tonawanda police were called to the Milton J. Broundshidle American Legion Post at 3354 Delaware Ave. after hundreds of people showed up to a birthday party booked at the location, according to police reports.

"All working police personnel" were sent to the hall at about 8:40 p.m. Saturday after a manager shut down the party when too many people showed up, a police report said. The hall's maximum capacity is 125 people.

As the hall was being cleared, someone pulled a fire alarm, and the crowd poured out on to Delaware Avenue and nearby side streets, according to police reports.

Town police went through the parking lot several times and patrolled side streets for several hours, police said. They were assisted by Kenmore police and Border Patrol. Amherst and City of Tonawanda police were put on standby to assist.

No injuries, arrests or property damage was reported.
