A Buffalo man was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge early Sunday after allegedly fleeing the scene of an auto accident.
Central District police said witnesses chased Kahimbe Shamu, 29, after a crash early Sunday on Hampshire Street between Prospect and Fargo avenues.
The witnesses got Shamu to stop at Fargo Avenue and Niagara Street, and police charged him with DWI, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and driving the wrong way on one-way Fargo Avenue. The police report did not say whether Shamu was fleeing on foot or in the vehicle.
Police reported they needed to use an interpreter to tell Shamu he had the right to remain silent.
