An Ashland Avenue landlord told Niagara Falls Police that he suspected a tenant of causing substantial damage to his rental property last week, apparently in retaliation for the landlord having the man arrested.
The arrest stemmed from an incident in which the landlord's car was damaged, according to police reports. On Wednesday morning, the landlord reported finding substantial damage at the apartment the suspect had been renting, including two broken air conditioning units and smashed mirrors, glass tables and flat-screen television sets.
Motor oil had been poured all across the living room and an oven in the apartment had been left on for hours, causing heavy smoke damage, police said. No damage estimate was given.
