Roger L. Sherrie, who has been chairman of the Lockport City Democratic Committee since 2016, announced Saturday he will not seek another term in that post.
Sherrie, who was the Democratic candidate for mayor in 2015, said the committee will hold a reorganizational meeting Sept. 15 and will choose new officers then.
"It was my honor to be the party’s standard-bearer in 2015 and to then help lead city Democrats these past two years," Sherrie said. "However, there comes a time when new leaders, with new ideas or a new vision step forward, and veterans like me step aside. That time has come."
Sherrie said during his terms, the committee was able to recruit new candidates for office and set up a formal structure for interviewing and endorsing them.
