Lockport man arrested after high-speed chase on Buffalo's East Side

Buffalo Police arrested a Lockport man Friday night after he crashed his sport utility vehicle during an eight-block high-speed chase on the East Side.

Jamar Fountain, 30, of Pine Street, was charged with reckless endangerment and various traffic charges after police saw him allegedly speeding on Jefferson Avenue at about 9:15 p.m.

Officers tried to stop the SUV at Mortimer and Peckham streets, but Fountain allegedly ran several stop signs and a red light, and turned off his headlights before crashing at Mortimer and Cherry streets.

Police said Fountain tried to run away, but was captured in a backyard a short distance from the crash scene. Fountain was treated in Erie County Medical Center, where his blood was drawn for a potential driving while intoxicated charge.
