AJ McCarron started at quarterback for the Bills' second preseason game Friday night in Cleveland. But it could be a while before he sees the field again.
After struggling to move the offense in his four series, McCarron sustained a hairline fracture in his collarbone, Vic Carucci reports.
Rookie Josh Allen replaced McCarron and led the Bills on three scoring drives, making a strong case to be the opening day starter. "There is no need to delay the inevitable.," Carucci writes. "Allen is the Bills’ most talented quarterback and the most talented player at any position should be on the field from the start of the season."
Nathan Peterman, who started the preseason opener, played most of the second half and threw a touchdown pass to Nick O'Leary to close out Buffalo's 19-17 victory.
But the story of the game was told in Josh Allen GIFs by excited Bills fans on Twitter.
What they said: Read Allen and Peterman's comments on the QB rotation.
Jay Skurski's observations: The offensive line did no favors for McCarron and LeSean McCoy, and Kyle Williams left the game with a knee injury.

WR depth chart coming into focus: Zay Jones played early on with the starters, while Corey Coleman made a quiet return to Cleveland.
Looking ahead: Buffalo's next preseason game is a week from Sunday against visiting Cincinnati and quarterback Andy Dalton, who has became an improbable hero to the devoted Bills fanbase.
