State Sen. Patrick Gallivan Friday said he is pulling his name from consideration for the Congressional seat now held by indicted Rep. Chris Collins.
"It is my great honor and privilege to represent the citizens of the 59th Senate District, who have entrusted me to be their voice in Albany," Gallivan wrote in a prepared statement that he posted on Facebook. "My commitment is to them, to all the individuals and organizations who have placed their trust in me, my colleagues in the Senate Majority and most importantly my family, take precedent over personal ambition.
"I will not be a candidate for the 27th Congressional District at this time," the Elma Republican wrote.
Gallivan was one of 13 potential candidates interested in the the 27th District Congressional seat now held by Collins, a Republican. Collins earlier this month suspended his re-election campaign after being indicted on charges related to insider trading.
Republican county chairs in the eight-county district will be interviewing candidates for the post next week.
