Saturday evening might not be the best time for a leisurely drive through the Southtowns.
Unless you like traffic jams. Then it might be perfect.
The reason is the confluence of a rare concert at New Era Field in Orchard Park and the final weekend of the Erie County Fair in Hamburg. Tens of thousands of people are expected to be coming and going from the two nearby venues at around the same time.
The concert featuring Jay-Z and Beyonce is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the stadium, while the final Saturday of the fair a few miles to the west will be going strong.
Around the stadium, expect the same traffic patterns as those set up for when the Bills play at home, Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard said.
Here's the rundown:
3 p.m.: The section of Abbott Road between the entrance to Lot 4 (north end of the closure) and Lot 2 (south end of the closure) will be closed. All through traffic will be diverted at that time.
4 p.m.: New Era Field parking lots open.
11 p.m.: At about this time, Route 20, also known as Big Tree Road, will be closed to westbound traffic from Abbott Road to the Route 219 overpass. All vehicles leaving the stadium and private lots along Route 20A must travel east.
The county fair at the Hamburg Fairgrounds, 5600 McKinley Parkway, is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Sunday is the fair's last day.
