Sheriff's vehicle rear-ended on Route 400, prisoner suffers 'minor head injury'

An Erie County sheriff's vehicle transporting a prisoner to the Holding Center was rear-ended on Route 400 Wednesday night, leaving the prisoner with a "minor head injury," the sheriff's office reported.

The collision took place just before 10 p.m. Officials said a deputy was transporting Jason Hamilton, 39, of Wales who he had pulled over in a traffic stop. The deputy discovered Hamilton had active warrants from family court, probation and the City of Buffalo, officials said. An ambulance crew was called to the scene. EMTs evaluated Hamilton who signed off at the scene and was taken to the Holding Center. The deputy was not injured and the sheriff's vehicle sustained rear-end damage.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the sheriff's vehicle, Jacob Modrzynski, 20, of East Aurora, was issued tickets.
