A Medina man admitted Thursday that he crashed a 2003 Toyota Highlander, reported stolen in Florida, in a chase in Hartland almost two years ago.
Carl J. Rivers, 49, of North Street, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. The sport utility vehicle was reported stolen in Pasco County, Fla., and Rivers remains wanted on a vehicle theft charge there.
But first he is to be sentenced Oct. 18 by Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon. Rivers, a second-time felon because of a 2010 grand larceny conviction in Genesee County, asked to be assigned to the state prison system's secure drug treatment facility. Sheldon made no promises.
Assistant District Attorney Joel M. Grundy said the SUV crashed while Niagara County sheriff's deputies were pursuing it Aug. 26, 2016.
