[BN] Blitz newsletter: Bills camp wraps up without a victor in the quarterback competition

Wednesday was the final day of Bills training camp, but the team's quarterback depth chart remains far from settled.

Neither free-agent addition AJ McCarron, 2017 draft pick Nathan Peterman nor 2018 first-rounder Josh Allen has been able to solidify the starting role.

"I think all three have certainly had their moments, both good and bad," coach Sean McDermott said. "The great part about these young men is that they're learning from the ones that haven't gone their way. As we continue to grow as a football team, they are continuing to grow at the quarterback position as well."

Peterman started the team's preseason opener and played well, but McCarron and Allen looked good, too. The starter for Friday's preseason game against the Browns has not been named publicly, though the players know what the rotation will be.

Camp MVPs: Jay Skurski handed out some training camp awards. Running back LeSean McCoy and safety Micah Hyde were named Offensive and Defensive MVPs, while tight end Jason Croom was named Most Improved and defensive tackle Harrison Phillips was named Best Rookie.

Jaguars' Jalen Ramsey calls Josh Allen "trash": The Jags' star cornerback, who plays on a team with Blake Bortles, talked smack about a bunch of others QBs in an interview with GQ. Bills' rookie Josh Allen made Ramsey's list, but to be fair, others have said worse. Not too worried about this one.

Training camp observations, Day 16: McDermott said the Bills are "trying to figure out" DE Trent Murphy's groin injury, which he described “a little nagging right now.”

What odds say about Tremaine Edmunds being named top defensive rookie: The Bills' linebacker has the third-highest odds, according to Bovada, but Denver DE Bradley Chubb, whom I picked here, was slotted as the favorite.

Bills claim DL Albert Havili, waive DT Marquavius Lewis: Havili, an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Washington, was claimed after being released by the L.A. Chargers.

What He Said: Here's the transcript from McDermott on the QB rotation and end of training camp.
