BBC Band honored by Buffalo mayor

Thursday is BBC Band Day in the City of Buffalo.

Mayor Byron Brown proclaimed the day during a noon concert at Niagara Square, featuring the popular classic rock band that will soon travel to Liverpool, England, to perform in the hometown of the Beatles.

Band members leave for Liverpool next week to perform at International Beatleweek, an event honoring the Beatles’ music and featuring bands from all over the world.

“The BBC is the first Buffalo band to have been invited to perform in the competitive and long running festival,” the mayor’s office said in a statement issued Wednesday.

The BBC Band – which stands for “Buffalo’s Beatles Connection” – has been performing British Invasion hits in the Buffalo area since 2002.

All the band members are from the Buffalo area.
