Reichert bows out of U.S. Amateur

Ben Reichert played his last seven holes at Pebble Beach Golf Links in three-under par, but the Amherst golfer settled down far too late Tuesday to make the cut for match play in the U.S. Amateur in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Reichert shot 9-over-par 80 at Pebble Beach after his 81 on Monday at Spyglass Hill for a 161 total, 18 over par. Starting his round on the 10th hole at Pebble, Reichert shot 46 on the back nine, including a 10 on the par-5 18th. He birdied three of four holes starting at No. 3 on his last nine and also had four pars coming home.
Daniel Hillier of New Zealand and Cole Hammer of the U.S. tied for medal honors at 137. Each played Spyglass for his second round. Hillier had 70 and Hammer 68.

The top 64 qualifiers will begin match play today. The cut line was at four over par.
