UB receives five-year, $3 million grant to study liver disease

University at Buffalo researchers received a five-year, $3 million grant to apply the power of big data to enhance liver health in the region.

The grant comes from the Troup Fund of Kaleida Health Foundation.

The award comes at a time when liver disease is spiking nationally, according to UB experts.

"Clearly, it's not an exaggeration to say that we are seeing a national crisis of liver disease and liver cancer," said Dr. Andrew H. Talal, director of the Liver Center of Western New York, who is a professor in the Department of Medicine in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and co-principal investigator on the grant.
