Man convicted of drug possession sentenced to 60 months in prison

A Buffalo man who was convicted on drug possession charges was sentenced Friday to 60 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo, according to the U.S. Attorney's office

Charles Newkirk, 34, was convicted of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, 10 grams or more of butyryl fentanyl. The U.S. Attorney's office said that between June 25 and July 28, 2015, Newkirk sold large volumes of heroin and butyryl fentanyl in Buffalo.

The sentencing was the culmination of an investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
