Buffalo Fire Department now has three deputy commissioners

Lt. David Schieber is the newest leader in the Buffalo Fire Department.

Mayor Byron W. Brown and Fire Commissioner William Renaldo on Friday named Schieber deputy commissioner of emergency medical services. Schieber, 53, has been a Buffalo firefighter for 26 years and was the department's EMS officer. For 30 years, he worked as a registered nurse as a second job mostly at the Buffalo Veteran Affairs Medical Center.

Schieber, who served in the Air Force Reserve 914th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, commands about 90 aeromedical evacuation personnel at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station and has received numerous awards for his military service.

He joins deputy commissioners Lt. Shannon Street of administration and personnel and Lt. Ramon Suarez Sr., of operations and arson, who were appointed earlier this summer.
