Driver arrested after police say he tried to run over patrons in church parking lot

A Tennessee man was arrested for allegedly attempting to run people over in a Batavia church parking lot.

Paul David Hussey, 63, of Hurricane Mills, was arrested after an incident Wednesday evening at the Northgate Free Methodist Church, 8160 Bank St.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office stated it received a report of a vehicle "allegedly attempting to run over patrons" at the church at around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Hussey was arrested on four counts of first-degree attempted assault by means of a deadly weapon or a dangerous instrument and four counts of fourth-degree reckless endangerment.

Hussey, who deputies said was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, also faces charges of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance; driving while intoxicated; driving while ability impaired by drugs; and driving while ability impaired by drugs combination.

He was arraigned in Batavia Town Court and was remanded to the Genesee County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
