Buffalo Bandits forward Josh Byrne was named to the National Lacrosse League's All-Rookie team on Wednesday, becoming the first player from the team to earn the honor since Dhane Smith in 2013.
Byrne finished first in assists (37) and points (63) and second in goals (26) among rookies this season. He was top five among all Bandits in all three categories and set rookie franchise bests for assists and points.
The New Westminster, B.C., native is joined on the all-rookie team by Rochester forwards Austin Shanks and Eric Fannell, Calgary transition player Zach Currier, New England transition player Colton Watkinson and Rochester defenseman Jake Withers.
No Bandits players were selected to the league's All-Pro first and second teams, which were also announced on Wednesday, despite Smith finishing third in the league in points (105).
