The Buffalo Leibs weren't supposed to play in the All-American Amateur Baseball Association tournament. But the team from Cleveland dropped out, and the Leibs took full advantage of their opportunity to play.
They won their opening game 12-3 against New Orleans on Monday in Johnstown, Pa., taking down the reigning national champions in the process.
Ryan Williams, a Ken East product who will be playing for Erie Community College, pitched seven innings, allowing just one run. Alfred State's Andrew Mazzone had two hits and four RBIs. Wentworth Tech's Justin Kirst had two RBI's, while Gabe Ghale, who attends Albany, and Kenneth 'Bam' Ruggiero, who attends ECC, each had two hits.
The other two Buffalo teams, Royal Printing and Full Circuit, both lost their first games. The Leibs will play Brooklyn on Tuesday, Royal Printing will play Maryland State and Full Circuit Power will play Philadelphia.
