Jeff Skinner's tenure with the Carolina Hurricanes ended last week when the eight-year veteran was traded to the Sabres.
Skinner took to Twitter on Sunday night to thank the fans and the organization for his time there.
"Thank you Carolina Hurricanes! I will cherish the many memories and friendships that I have formed over the past 8 years. I am grateful to have met many great people throughout the organization from management, to team staff and all of my teammates. I have been very fortunate. Lastly, thank you to the Hurricanes fans for welcoming me into the Triangle and your incredible support.
The tweet was met with many heartfelt responses. A sampling:
Jeff, the arena got brighter every time you skated out onto the ice. It was a joy to watch you play here. God bless and best of luck in your next chapter!

It was an absolute pleasure to watch you play. You were always incredible gracious and generous with the fans. Thank you and best of luck in Buffalo and going forward (except against the Canes). You’ll be missed here in Carolina.

@jeffskinner my daughter who is 14 will tell everyone you were her first crush at age 6. She wrote your name on her wall in child like scribble long ago! My being from Buffalo will make it easy to route for you and to cheer you on in a new Sabres #53 jersey for my daughter!
