PHILLIPPS - Gerard Paul "Jerry"
Gerard Paul (Jerry) Philipps, 85, of Fredonia, NY died Wednesday morning, July 18 after a brief illness. Beloved husband of the late Patricia A. (Maurin) Philipps, he is survived by 7 children, 20 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Loving father of Amy (Daniel) Hontz of Fredonia, NY, Ellen (Wayne) Conrad of Angola, NY, Sally (Richard) Phelps of West Boylston, MA, Michael (Cheryl) Philipps of The Woodlands, TX, Eileen Bardwell of Derby, NY, Katherine (John) Kiernan of Huntington, NY and Matthew (Katryn) Cross of Taos, NM. A Buffalo native and advocate of higher education, Jerry attended Canisius High School and Canisius College. He was especially proud that all seven of his children earned college degrees, and set up a trust to assist his 20 grandchildren in doing the same. A salesman all his life, Jerry worked in insurance after college, then sold and serviced automotive equipment with AAMCO Tools. He later started his own business, Gerard Philipps, Inc. where he continued to service automotive customers. Jerry was an athlete and sportsman - he played basketball and golf, and enjoyed hunting with friends and fishing with his wife Patsy. After living in Buffalo all his life, he moved to Angola, NY where he raised his family on Lake Erie. After his wife passed, Jerry moved to Sunset Beach, NC where he lived for a time before returning to the Buffalo area to be closer to his growing family. Donations in Jerry's honor are being accepted to Headway of WNY, an organization supporting victims of traumatic brain injury and in-home care for the sick. A Mass for Christian Burial and military honors took place Monday, July 23rd. It had been 29 years to the day since his wife Patsy's death. One of the greatest couples of our time - Jerry and Patsy are together once again.
