Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon imposed the sentence on Benjamin F. Stanley, 43, of Highland Avenue, City of Tonawanda, who didn't react well when his girlfriend of 17 years ended their relationship.

He broke into her North Tonawanda apartment Dec. 18, violated a restraining order by ramming her parked vehicle Jan. 1, and on Jan. 27, stole the woman's pickup truck, aimed it toward Ellicott Creek in the Town of Tonawanda and jumped out, leaving the truck to splash into the water. Stanley owes $10,058 in restitution.

"There's no question there's some mental health issues here," defense attorney Frank L. LoTempio Jr. said. "He needs some monitoring."
