A Niagara Falls man pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Niagara County Court to an indictment that accuses him of raping three women and carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Anthony L. Butler, 37, of Niagara Avenue, is charged with three counts of first-degree rape, two counts of predatory sexual assault and one misdemeanor charge of violating a restraining order against one of the women.
Two of the rapes occurred this year, on May 9 and 12, Assistant District Attorney Robin P. Day said. The other dates back to Feb. 15, 2011.
Judge Matthew J. Murphy III set bail at $75,000 for Butler, who is already a Level 3 sex offender for having sex with a 12-year-old girl in Rochester in 2001. He served three years in prison for second-degree rape.
