Cheektowaga teen bicyclist critical after being hit on Union Road

A 16-year-old Cheektowaga girl is in critical condition at Erie County Medical Center after she was struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle across Union Road on Monday afternoon, Cheektowaga police said.

The teen, identified by police as Sherilann Lorenz, was struck at about 2:15 p.m. as she crossed west over Union near the on-ramp to the Kensington Expressway, just north of the Airport Plaza. The car was going north on Union and the driver, identified by police as Ronald Anderson, 36, of Amherst, is cooperating with police.

Based upon the initial investigation, it appears Lorenz, who works as a lifeguard for the Town of Cheektowaga, was crossing against traffic, said Asssistant Police Chief James Speyer.

No charges are pending against Anderson, police said.

Police have interviewed several witnesses and ask anyone who may have information to call the Cheektowaga Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit at 716-686-3580.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Lorenz family with expenses.
