[BN] Blitz newsletter: Last player on Bills' roster was literally waiting for the call that came

John Hughes was literally in his house hoping the phone would ring last week when the Buffalo Bills finally called with an invite to training camp.

Hughes, the last player added to the Bills' roster before camp opened, shared his story with Jay Skurski.

"On Wednesday I found out in I was supposed to be on a plane here in three hours," Hughes said. "The plane ended up being cancelled. I wound up driving from Cleveland to here, which worked out, because my truck's here now."

If you're looking for a random player to root for at camp, Hughes may be your guy. He might sound like a longshot based on when he was added to the team, but Skurski detailed how Hughes is used to beating the odds.

Can Dupre break through at wide receiver? After Kelvin Benjamin, every wide receiver position on the Bills' roster could be up for grabs. Malachi Dupre is hoping he can snag one. "I know nothing is set in stone yet; coaches are still trying to figure things out," Dupre said. "... No matter what group I’m in, whether it’s the ones or threes, I’m just trying to get better each and every play and show coaches that I know what I’m doing."

Your guide to all 90 players on the Bills' training camp roster

Practice schedule: The Bills were off Monday. They return for practice Tuesday, though it will be closed to the public (which gives you time to go see Vladimir Guerrero Jr. play for the Bisons). Wednesday's and Thursday's practices are public at St. John Fisher. Friday's practice is at New Era Field but requires a ticket (full schedule here).

Details of Darnold's deal with Jets: For fans wondering what type of issues quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills could've been negotiating in his rookie contract, which comes with a set salary, the negotiations of fellow first-rounder Sam Darnold might help illuminate that issue. Pro Football Talk had a good piece detailing how Darnold gave up negotiating for favorable offset language in exchange for having his full bonus paid sooner rather than later, as well as a few other pieces of contract language.
