Blood drive in memory of North Tonawanda man seeking donors

A blood drive in honor of the late Brandon Kupiec will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company, on 3747 Lockport Road, organizers said.

The blood drive, hosted by the Kupiec family, Unyts and the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company, has been held annually for the past five years in memory of Brandon, who died in 2013. He was 20.

The blood drive aims to collect 100 pints in six hours. It has collected 585 pints of blood since it was created.

“With schools that host blood drives on break and many individuals enjoying vacation, summer presents a difficult time to collect donations. However the critical need for blood does not change," the organizers said.

The event will also include a basket raffle to benefit a welding scholarship.
