Free inspections of child safety seats will be offered next weekend to drivers in Erie and Niagara counties.
The campaign by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee and the Department of Motor Vehicles aims to ensure that all parents correctly install child restraints and use them properly.
Federal statistics show safety seats reduce the risk of death in crashes by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers.
Inspections will be available from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, and from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Catholic Health Administration and Training Center, 144 Genesee St., Buffalo.
Appointments are required by calling 706-2112.
In Lockport, a session is set for 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Niagara County Public Safety Training Facility, 5574 Niagara St. Extension. The appointment number is 438-3464.
