Federal funding for the Olcott Fire Company in Niagara County and the Perry-Warsaw Airport in Wyoming County was announced Friday by Rep. Chris Collins, R-Clarence.
The airport will receive $231,975 to build an automated weather observing system, providing up-to-the-minute site-specific weather information used to improve aviation safety. That money came from the federal Department of Transportation.
The Olcott volunteers will receive $84,202 to purchase new protective equipment for firefighters, known as turnout gear. The money came from the Homeland Security Department's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
It's the second recent major grant to the Olcott company.
Last month, it dedicated a new fire engine paid for primarily with $130,000 state funds lined up by State Sen. Robert G. Ortt, R-North Tonawanda.
