MISNER, Captain Jack Robert

MISNER - Captain Jack Robert A retired Merchant Marine, passed away at his home in Wheatfield, NY on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Grace; father to Beth (Barny Dunning) Misner, Kathy (John) Maiolo, Noreen (Dan) Thaw, Robert (Cindy) McDonald, and Laurie Misner; grandfather to Nate, Bobby, David, Kelli, Jennifer (late Nick), Michael (Sara), Kristen, Cole, and Cayden; also preceded in death by his brothers, Dan (Fay) Misner, Bill (late Fern) Misner, and Pete (Pat) Daboll; survived by Rhonda (late Jerry) Holka, Candy (Bruce) Lewis, James, and Peter (late Sharon). Captain Jack joined the US Navy in 1945 and served in the Korean War. After being the youngest Merchant Marine promoted to captain, he received a commendation for assisting the Vietnam War efforts during the Tet Offensive. In retirement, Jack enjoyed working in his shop, repairing the broken and creating the beautiful. He volunteered his skills for the VFW, St. Johnsburg Fire Hall, and the Navy SeaBee Monument. A perfect example of Jack's love of woodwork and the sea was his beloved schooner, The Panda. Friends and family, please join us in celebration of Jack's life Friday the 27th of July at Pane's Restaurant, 984 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda, at 2 pm.
