A 53-year-old Buffalo man has been charged with setting a man on fire who was asleep on the front steps of a building on Broadway, according to a police report.

The victim remained in the burn unit at Erie County Medical Center on Friday, having suffered burns to his upper torso and arm, said Lt. James Otwell of the Buffalo Fire Department.

The attack happened at about 9:20 a.m. July 20 at 1555 Broadway, several blocks west of Bailey Avenue.

Gregory Brown has been charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief, according to court papers. Brown, who was arrested Wednesday afternoon, is accused of using a lighter in the attack. No accelerant was used, Otwell said.
