‘Kong,’ ‘Casablanca,’ Hitchcock and more classic cinema plays the Riviera

There’s something special about seeing a genuine cinema classic on the big screen, especially at a venue like North Tonawanda’s glorious, historic Riviera Theatre. Film fans will have that opportunity for eight weeks starting in August, during the M&T Bank Throwback Thursday Film Series.

All of the films are digitally restored. Note that three of the selections - “The Sound of Music” (1965), “Gone With the Wind” (1939) and  “West Side Story” (1961) - feature intermissions.

Movies are 7 p.m., with doors open at 6:30 p.m., at the Riviera Theatre (67 Webster St., North Tonawanda). Tickets are $3, with free admission for Riviera Theatre members. For more information or to buy tickets, visit rivieratheatre.org.
