Comedy from the North and South invade Buffalo during the last weekend of July. Here’s what we’re eyeing up this weekend:
The wellRED comedy trio of Trae Crowder, Drew Morgan and Corey Ryan Forrester will headline a weekend of shows July 26-28 at Helium Comedy Club (30 Mississippi St.). The group has written and performed comedy together with books (“Liberal Redneck Manifesto”), podcasts (“wellRED”) and its current tour (“From Dixie With Love”). Crowder also writes and performs a series of viral videos as “The Liberal Redneck.” The Southern boy comedy looks to blend the colors of red states and blue states. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. July 26 and 7:30 and 10 p.m. July 27 and 28. General admission tickets are $25 with dinner packages available for $112. Info: buffalo.heliumcomedy.com.
A double bill of Ariel Kagan and Dan Viola headlines the 8 p.m. show July 28 at Rob's Comedy Playhouse. A native of South Africa, Kagan helped develop that country’s comedy scene (which includes “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah) and now lives in Toronto. Kagan was recently featured at the Canadian Just for Laughs Festival. Viola draws upon his background, which includes raising seven children, to unleash his family-friendly comedy. Tickets are $12, with group rates available for $10 each. Info: robscomedyplayhouse.com
A number of local comedians are performing in the “Comedy on the Rocks” showcase show at 8 p.m. July 27 at Black Button Distilling (149 Swan St.). Several Helium Comedy openers like Allie Brady, Brandon Trusso and Bennet Solowski are on the bill, as well as Woody Battaglia, Dan McArdle and Spencer Carr. The show will be hosted by Don Johnson. Free admission. Info: facebook.com/buffalocomedy
