Charlie Fischer (East Aurora CC) and Elena Lopez (Crag Burn) scored runner-up finishes Wednesday in the New York State Golf Association junior tournaments at Twin Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton.
Fischer shot 1-over 37 for a 27-hole total of 114 to tie for second in the Sub-Junior Boys tournament for ages 14 and under. Anthony Maglisco, 14, the Syracuse District champion, coasted to the the Sub-Junior Boys championship with 72-36-108.
Bailey Shoemaker, 13, of Unadilla Valley won the Junior Girls division for the second year in a row. Shoemaker, who won by seven strokes last year, had a three-shot margin this time on her home course after shooting 75-34-109. Lopez of Clarence shot 77-35-112.
Fifteen-year-old Luke Semple of New York City, last year’s Sub-Junior champion moved up to win the Junior Boys Amateur championship. He defeated Nic Whittaker of Ithaca with birdie on the first playoff hole after he had shot even-par 72 in the second round of the 36-hole event.
Ryan Hart of Naples, Fla., playing out of the Country Club of Buffalo finished in a three-way tie for fourth place. Hart shot 1-over 73 on Wednesday for 147.
