National Grid awards $300,000 grant for Elk Street cleanup

National Grid will provide up to $300,000 grant to help clean up a former ExxonMobil refinery property on Elk Street, along the Buffalo River.

The economic development grant will go to Krog Corp.'s Elk Street Commerce Park, to support the cleanup of 89 acres of contaminated land. National Grid's funds will be used to cover costs related to old concrete and pipes, as well as to treat soil contaminated by metals, petroleum and lead.

Once cleaned up, the property will be suitable for commercial, industrial or warehouse use, according to National Grid.
