Batavia Police are investigating a homicide that occurred late Tuesday at a residence on Liberty Street in the city.
Police responded at about 11:15 p.m. to a report of a physical altercation in one of the rooms of the residence and found a male victim who had suffered significant injuries. Emergency medical services were called but the victim died of his injuries at the scene, police said.
A description of a possible suspect was obtained by police, who canvassed the area for evidence, with assistance from a State Police K-9 unit. Police declined to release a description of the possible suspect. Police withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
The body was sent to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office, where an autopsy was scheduled to be conducted Thursday, according to Batavia Police.
Police believe the incident was not a random act of violence and the two knew each other.
