Old Fort Niagara to host its largest War of 1812 re-enactment

Old Fort Niagara will host its largest War of 1812 event ever this weekend, bringing hundreds of re-enactors to the Youngstown historical site Saturday and Sunday to portray military and naval personnel.

The Grand Encampment features full days of musket demonstrations, military music and other activities, including four full-scale "battles."

Saturday, the Americans will defend the fort against the British Navy at 11 a.m., and British ground troops will attack the fort at 4 p.m.

Sunday, American artillery will bombard the British fleet at 11 a.m., and British infantry will again storm the fort at 2 p.m.

The fort said visitors should show up at least an hour before the battles to make sure they have enough time to get through admission and reach the viewing areas.
