Peter E. Tuyn, 75, retired owner of Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home in Williamsville

July 24, 1942 – July 12, 2018

Peter E. Tuyn, a funeral director and retired owner of Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home in Williamsville, died July 12 in Hospice by the Sea, Boca Raton, Fla., after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 75.

Born in Buffalo, the oldest of six children, he was a 1961 graduate of Williamsville High School, where he played on the football team, and a graduate of the Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse.

Mr. Tuyn joined his father, Edward “Ted,” in the funeral home in 1963. He took over the business in 1974 when his father retired and operated it until 2007.

Currently owned and operated by Gregg Berwick, Beach-Tuyn was established in 1848 as Demeter Wehrle Furniture and Undertaking and has operated at the same Main Street location ever since.

A Fort Lauderdale, Fla., resident for the past eight years, Mr. Tuyn was a member of the Williamsville Rotary Club and Lions Club and a life member of Hutchinson Hose Company.

Surviving are a daughter, Kimberly; two sons, Bradley and Brian; four sisters, Carol Crapple, Susan Wick, Nancy Forman and Gretchen Leto; and a brother, Daniel.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered July 21 in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 5480 Main St., Williamsville.
