Names in the news:
Jordan Williams: The co-anchor of WIVB-TV's (Channel 4) "Wake Up!" has his final broadcast on the CBS affiliate on Wednesday, the final day of the July sweeps.
Williams is becoming assistant news director at KBMT, his hometown station in Beaumont, Texas. He is from Port Neches, Texas, and is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio.
On Thursday and Friday, Melanie Orlins will do the morning program with Dave Greber. The station hasn't announced a temporary or permanent replacement for Williams. Replacing anchors takes time.
Robin Williams: The best thing I saw on television during a week's vacation was the HBO documentary, "Come Inside My Mind," on the late comedian. It was an extraordinary documentary featuring Williams' manic performances and interviews with his closest friends and family members. If you get HBO, it is must-see TV and available On Demand.
Winston Duke: Who? He may become the most famous actor you never realized graduated from the University at Buffalo theater program.
And he is about to play one of the early stars of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Kimbo Slice.
The website Deadline reports that Duke, who graduated from a Rochester-area high school before going to UB, has signed to star as the late MMA fighter in an upcoming film, "Backyard Legend."
Duke recently starred as M'Baku in the mega-hit "Black Panther" and "Avengers: Infinity Wars."
After graduating from UB, Duke received a master's degree from the Yale School of Drama.
Before his big film break, he appeared in several television programs, including "Modern Family," "Major Crimes" and "Person of Interest."
Mister Rogers: If you haven't see the critically-acclaimed documentary currently playing in theaters, "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" be advised the PBS series "Independent Lens" will eventually air it. The series announced the film about Fred Rogers and his legendary PBS children's program will air sometime in the winter/spring 2019 season.
Jason Tartick: I just love the ABC releases that attempt to build suspense for episodes of "The Bachelorette," which this season feature the Buffalo native. He is one of the final three suitors for Becca Kufrin's heart. Here is the release for tonight's episode in which Becca narrows her choice down to two men.
"Becca and her three smitten suitors travel to the jungle paradise of Chiang Mai, Thailand, where the country’s tropical climate can only match the heat generated by her relationships with Blake, Garrett and Jason. The romantic overnight dates will give Becca the opportunity to spend intimate time with each of the men away from the cameras. However, she still has concerns about each of these bachelors. Will she gain some clarity and come closer to finding her true love? Or will there be more uncertainty and doubt?
"The first lucky man is Blake. Becca leads him to a beautiful hiking path, the Monk’s Trail, but they must respect the rules about no kissing or touching in any way while exploring the pathway. That is quite a challenge for the affectionate couple, but it will assure Becca that their relationship is built on more than physical chemistry. Honesty is one key quality that Becca values, however, Blake has not been truthful about his anguish over her relationships with the other two men. At dinner, Blake admits to his insecurity about his rivals, but what message does that send to Becca?
"Jason, a perpetual optimist, is delighted to spend the day with Becca shopping and wandering around a bustling outdoor market. True to form, the couple romp around the marketplace like it was their own personal playground. But Becca has a major doubt that is eating away at her. Can she quiet her own fears enough to discuss it with Jason?
"Becca’s final date of the week is with Garrett. The two must maneuver a bamboo raft, navigating unexpectedly crowded waters on a busy Thai river filled with swimmers and elephants. Dinner that night offers some more obstacles. Will Garrett be able to overcome his reluctance to open up emotionally and lower his defenses in order to get a fantasy suite invitation?"
"Shortly before the rose ceremony, a mystery man shows up at Becca’s hotel room. What does he want? Will this last-minute bombshell derail Becca’s search for love?"
Admit it. You couldn’t stop reading the above prose, even if you may have laughed a little.
