Time to tally up the totes in Buffalo's "Let's DO This! Neighborhood Recycling Contest."
The contest is designed to encourage block clubs to increase curbside recycling in their neighborhoods. Block club leaders worked with neighbors from June 25 to July 12 to increase recycling participation.
This week, contest organizers will be out counting green recycling totes to determine which of the 30 block clubs that signed up for the contest increased its recycling participation the most, said Mayor Byron W. Brown.
The grand prize is a community recycling event and a choice of a community garden kit or a street planter.
Winners will be announced next month, said Susan Attridge, the city's director of refuse and recycling.
