PINTO, Elizabeth Cooley

PINTO - Elizabeth Cooley October 5,1936- July 4, 2018, passed away peacefully at home after a brief battle with cancer. "Liz", as she was affectionately called, was known for her love for her family and friends in both the United Kingdom and United States, principally New York City and Buffalo, her place of birth. She was happiest on the deck of her summer home overlooking Shelter Island Sound or working on her garden in West Sussex. A loyal Smith College alumna, she served as President of the Smith College of London for many years. An excellent skier and a weekly tennis player, she was a proud American and Independence Day was her favorite holiday. Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 58 years, Maurice; her son Marc Pinto; daughter Lisa Pinto Wimer; and their respective spouses, Margot and Paul; grandchildren Hannah, Adam, Matthew, and Mo Pinto; Otto, Alex, and Charlotte Wimer; and her brothers Benedict Cooley, Frederick Cooley, and sister Rebecca Etcheverry. The service to celebrate her life was held at the Brick Church in Manhattan July 9. In lieu of flowers, please send gifts to the Elizabeth Cooley Pinto 1958 Scholarship Fund at Smith College, 33 Elm St., Northampton, MA 01063.
