‘Noxious odor’ leads police to 30 lbs. of marijuana, almost 600 plants

Complaint of a “noxious odor” led to the discovery of a home marijuana-growing operation Friday, Gowanda Village Police reported.

Officers traced the smell to a house on Torrance Place about 3 p.m. When David E. Yezek let them in, police said, they saw two large bags of marijuana "in plain sight."

Authorities later executed a search warrant and said they found more than 30 pounds of marijuana and almost 600 marijuana plants.

Yezek, 58, was arrested on charges of first-degree criminal possession of marijuana and unlawfully growing marijuana. He was arraigned in Town of Persia Court and remanded to Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, police said.

The Southern Tier Drug Task Force, State Police and Erie County Sheriff’s Office assisted Gowanda Police in the incident.
