Main-Transit Fire Department officials are investigating a blaze that caused major damage to an Amherst home Saturday evening.
Amherst Fire Control said it dispatched crews to 347 Sagewood Terrace following a 7:48 p.m. call from a neighbor reporting smoke and flames in the attached garage. Main-Transit Chief Dan Hooper arrived within three minutes and reported that the fire had spread into the residence. He said the home was immediately evacuated but noted “multiple explosions” from within the garage. The fire was declared under control in about 29 minutes.
Officials listed damage at 337 Sagewood at $350,000 and $1,000 in exposure damage to the home next door at 339 Sagewood.
Fire companies from East Amherst and Williamsville assisted at the scene. No injuries were reported.
The cause remains under investigation.
