Locked door thwarts repeat robbery suspect

A man recognized from an earlier robbery attempt was thwarted by a locked door as he attempted to enter the Red Maple Inn with a scarf over his face late Friday, Niagara Falls Police said.

An employee who had been cleaning the vestibule of the Rainbow Boulevard motel locked the front door upon seeing the man just before 10:30 p.m. She said that he ran up to the doors, tried pulling on them and then fled on a bicycle after realizing they were locked.

The woman told police she recognized the man from an earlier robbery attempt in which he wore the exact same clothing. Police are attempting to identify the suspect.
