Two in Cattaraugus County charged in mistreatment of four horses

Two people were charged with animal cruelty, accused of failing to properly feed and care for four horses, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office reports.

Andrew M. Filer and Linda M. Hawkins, both of 3636 Union Valley, Hinsdale, were charged July 13 under the New York State Agriculture and Market Law for failing to provide adequate food to an animal and failure to provide care and proper food to a confined animal, the sheriff's office said.

The arrests followed an investigation by the Sheriff's Office into the four horses being chronically underfed and not properly cared for.

Filer and Hawkins will appear in Hinsdale Town Court on a later date.
