A Buffalo man threw a 15-year-old boy into the Erie Canal during the Canal Fest of the Tonawandas at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, City of Tonawanda police said.

Austin W. Terry, 20, was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree harassment and possession of marijuana.

Police said a "female" approached Terry and told him that the 15-year-old was "harassing" her. Terry allegedly picked up the 15-year-old boy, carried him to the canal break near the Delaware Street Bridge in the City of Tonawanda and threw him into the water, police said. The teen, whose name was not released, swam to a nearby boat. A police officer on an ATV witnessed the incident and took Terry into custody.

Terry was arraigned Friday morning and bail was set at $1,500.
