DA: 2-year-old died of multiple blunt force injuries

The Erie County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the 2-½-year-old Buffalo boy whose mother's boyfriend has been charged with manslaughter died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office.

Xavion Hazzard was pronounced dead Tuesday at Oishei Children's Hospital after police were called to his family's apartment on Weaver Street in the city's Kaisertown neighborhood. District Attorney John J. Flynn said the mother's boyfriend, Bashar Hall, is accused of shaking and beating the boy prior to his death.

Hall, 23, faces a first-degree manslaughter charge and was ordered held on $500,000 bail. He remained in the Erie County Holding Center as of Thursday afternoon.

Keona Owens, Hazzard's 22-year-old mother, told The Buffalo News on Wednesday she doesn't believe Hall intended to kill her son.
